Who can apply?

Studies can be undertaken by people who hold:

  • a diploma of higher education (at least Licencjat or equivalent, e.g. bachelor) awarded in the academic area of: Humanities, Social Sciences or Theology.

A diploma obtained at a foreign university is equal to the documents issued in Poland, as long as it confirms the candidate’s eligibility to undertake the second-cycle programmes of study.

Qualified candidates need to have graduated from the declared study programme by the time of enrollment and have at least a certificate of graduation.

Qualification criteria

Admission rules have been established in resolution no—8/I/2026 of the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on January 28, 2026

The final admission result is calculated based on the following elements:

 element weight
interview

100% (provided that additional formal requirement is met)

Results on the document entitling to undertake studies are not considered in the calculation of the final admission result.

The interview

The interview is conducted in Romanian. Its aim is to assess the candidate's predisposition to study. Details regarding the job interview are provided on the Faculty of Philology website.

Candidates are notified of the interview details individually through their IRK accounts in the “Messages” tab after the application round is closed and at least a day before the exam session specified in the schedule.

Interviews are conducted remotely (online) using distance communication tools (such as Microsoft Teams). To participate in a remote interview, the candidate must have a stable Internet connection, a working microphone and headphones or speakers, as well as access to a webcam. During the interview, the examiner will verify the candidate’s identity (based on the presented identity document) and ensure the independence of their work.

Additional formal requirement

An additional formal criterion is the successful completion of the admission interview. Successful completion of the interview means obtaining at least 40% of the possible points.

A candidate, who does not fulfil the additional formal requirement, will obtain 0 points and cannot be accepted for studies, regardless of any other educational achievements.

Application form

In the admission application form:
  1. Answer questions about:
    • completed programme of studies,
    • affiliation of the diploma to the group of diplomas obtained in the field of Humanities, Social Sciences or Theology. Attention! If your diploma does not belong to any of the mentioned groups, you cannot enrol for this programme of study.

How is the result calculated?

The qualification criteria are the same for all candidates, regardless of the type of diploma held.

When calculating the final admission result, only the elements specified in the qualification criteria may be taken into account, namely: the results of entrance examinations conducted by Jagiellonian University, the results of the document analysis, and the grades shown on the document that entitles you to undertake studies, which you indicate in your application.

More information about the individual elements taken into account when calculating the qualification result can be found on the following page: obliczanie wyniku (in Polish).

Foreign diplomas

Diplomas confirming the completion of studies obtained at foreign institutions are treated the same as the documents issued in Poland, provided they confirm the right to undertake second-cycle (Master’s) studies. If your diploma was issued abroad, make sure that it meets the admission requirements. In case of any doubts, please contact the Admission Office by email rekrutacja@uj.edu.pl

A detailed admission schedule is available on the website: admission schedule.

An additional application round is opened only for the programmes with free places. Rounds for different programmes can start several days following the announcement of the results. Stay up to date with the information published in the IRK system.
