Admission step-by-step
Before applying, read the information on the website carefully: application step–by–step.
Who can apply?
Studies can be undertaken by people who hold:
- a diploma of higher education (at least Licencjat or equivalent, e.g. bachelor) awarded in any field.
A diploma obtained at a foreign university is equal to the documents issued in Poland, as long as it confirms the candidate’s eligibility to undertake the second-cycle programmes of study.
Qualified candidates need to have graduated from the declared study programme by the time of enrollment and have at least a certificate of graduation.
Qualification criteria
Admission rules have been established in resolution no—58/V/2024 of the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on May 29, 2024 and resolution no—19/II/2025 of the Senate of the Jagiellonian University on February 26 2025.
The final admission result is calculated based on the following elements:
element | scale | weight |
grade average | computed into points on a scale from 0 to 100 based on the grading scale | 100% |
Attention! Kindly remember to indicate your grade average in the “Personal forms” tab, part “Education”, and link “Edit exam results” in your IRK account to make sure your final admission result is calculated correctly.
The grade average has to be entered into the system till the end of a current application round. If you fail to enter your results on time, you can be awarded 0 points and not get admitted for studies.
Additional formal requirement
To undertake this programme, it is required to submit along with the application one of the following documents confirming the candidate’s competency in English at least at B2 level:
- Cambridge B2 First (grade C or higher);
- Cambridge C1 Advanced;
- Cambridge C2 Proficiency;
- IELTS Academic (at least 5.5 points);
- TOEFL (at least: iBT: 72 points, ITP: 543 points, CBT: 180 points);
- higher education diploma in the field of English Philology (English Studies);
- higher education diploma if the language of instruction was English;
- IB diploma;
- EB certificate;
- citizenship of a country in which English is the official language;
- Other documents (e.g. transcript marks confirming passing the university English language course at least at the B2 level).
Application form
When applying, candidates have to fill out a form regarding:
- the course of study they have graduated from (upon enrolment);
- declaration of the fulfilment of the formal criteria described in the section “Who can apply?”;
When applying, candidates have to upload into the system:
- a document confirming their knowledge of English at least at level B2 (only certificates listed in the section “Who can apply?” will be accepted).
How is the result calculated?
The candidate must indicate the grades from his studies in the IRK account. It also applies to the graduates of Jagiellonian University – your grades cannot be downloaded from the USOS system.
When calculating the final result, only the results of the analysis of the documents and the grades appearing on the diploma entitling to undertake the studies may be taken into account. Additional achievements do not affect the calculated result.
The IRK system converts the results to match the scale of 0.00–100.00 – do not convert the grades yourself.
The grade average
Candidates must enter the grade average until the last day of applications in the current application round. Indicate the grade average and the appropriate rating scale according to the information on your documents (most often, it will be a diploma supplement).
Attention! Do not calculate the average grade yourself. If you are qualified for studies, you must present a document confirming your result.
If the grade average is not indicated in your diploma supplement or other documents obtained after graduation, ask the secretariat of your studies to issue a certificate with the grade average. The certificate should indicate the scale of assessments applied at the university.
Some universities, especially foreign ones, do not calculate the grade average and do not issue appropriate certificates. If you are in such a situation, please contact us by e-mail during the admission round (rekrutacja@uj.edu.pl), sending documents based on which the average has to be calculated. In addition, you have to send confirmation from your university that issuing you a certificate with your grade average is impossible.
Foreign diplomas
Foreign diplomas are equivalent to documents issued in Poland, provided they entitle holders to undertake the second-cycle studies.
If your document confirms your grade average needed to calculate your final result, enter it into the system along with the appropriate grading scale. Be informed that you must present documentation for all the data indicated in the system to enroll.
Computing the results from foreign diplomas
Suppose the required grade is indicated in the documents but set on a scale that does not allow it to be entered into the IRK system (for example, when it is descriptive or written using letters). In that case, verifying your diploma by the Admission Office will be necessary. In this case, do not calculate the grades yourself; contact us by e-mail during the admission round (rekrutacja@uj.edu.pl) and send all documents that should be included in the calculation.
Calculating missing results
If your documents do not indicate the grades required in the qualification criteria, please contact your previous university requesting a relevant certificate. Do not calculate the ratings yourself.
Some foreign universities do not calculate the grade average and do not issue appropriate certificates. If you are in such a situation, please contact us by e-mail during the admission round (rekrutacja@uj.edu.pl), sending documents based on which the average has to be calculated. In addition, you have to send confirmation from your university that issuing you a certificate with your grade average is impossible.
